A Sweetener Found in Tequila May Be Good for Diabetes

It has been said that a glass of red wine at dinner can help people with diabetes manage their blood glucose. However, red wine is not the only alcohol that may be good for diabetes. A recent news from Mexico talks about a certain sweetener found in tequila that may have similar effects as red wine.

Agavin, A Sweetener in Tequila

The sweetener found in tequila is known as agavin. Agavin comes from the same plant as the agave nectar. However, unlike agave nectar, this sweetener does not contain any calories. Agavin, also known as fructan, is a naturally occurring type of fructose. This substance is chemically different from the agave nectar.
