Diabetes Skin Care Tips

Avoid Extremely Hot Water

Hot water might feel good at first, however, showering and bathing in hot water is not a good idea for diabetes skin care because it can further dry your skin. When showering, you should not let the water temperature exceed 120 degrees and do not stay immersed in hot water for more than 15 minutes.

Burns as a result of hot water is also dangerous if you have diabetic neuropathy as this can lead to the numbness of the feet and hands. The next time you shower, set the hot water heater at a low level. Test the water first before you take a bath or consider using a rubber duck thermometer.

Moisturize Regularly

Regularly moisturizing your skin can go a long way to preventing dry skin. The most important areas in your body to target are those areas that are easily prone to chapping and drying, such as your arms, legs, back and belly. There are lots of moisturizers in the market that are made specifically for diabetes skin care.
