Check the List of Ingredients
If you are looking at food labels, begin by checking out the list of ingredients. When doing so, keep an eye for the heart healthy ingredients. These are whole-wheat flour, oats and soy. Monounsaturated fats, like olive, canola and peanut oils are also good for the heart.
Avoid buying foods with unhealthy ingredients, like the hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oil. Take note that the ingredients are often listed in a descending order based on weight. The heaviest ingredient is usually listed on the first and then followed by the other ingredients in decreasing amount.
