3. Diverticulitis
Another stomach pain cause is diverticulitis. Diverticulitis happens due to an inflammation in the pockets of the colon known as the diverticula. Undigested food and waste can fill the inflamed diverticula and this can lead to pain and swelling. The most common symptom of diverticulitis is cramping of the lower abdomen.
Other symptoms that come with diverticulitis are intestinal tears and bleeding. Depending on how severe the condition is, diverticulitis can be treated through lifestyle and dietary changes, surgery, and medication. Mild cases of diverticulitis can be relieved with adequate rest, but severe cases will require surgery in order to prevent future flare-ups.
