10 Stomach Pain Causes

4. Malfunctioning Thyroid

Surprisingly, thyroid problems can also cause stomach pain. The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland that’s located in the neck area and is responsible for the proper functioning of the digestive system and several other systems in the body. This gland regulates the release of hormones that are responsible for figuring out the speed of digestion. If the thyroid malfunctions, this can lead to either hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.

If the patient has hyperthyroidism, this means that the thyroid gland will produce excess hormones that could speed up the process of digestion. This can cause stomachaches and diarrhea. On the other hand, if a patient has hypothyroidism, the digestion process will be slowed down. This can trigger gas and constipation and can make the patient suffer from abdominal pain and stomach pain.
