8. Abdominal Discomfort
Kennel cough is an infection that may scatter throughout different parts of the body if no proper treatment has been done. One complication from having an untreated kennel cough is abdominal discomfort. Once the infection reaches the abdomen, it targets the abdominal lining called the peritoneum. This condition is medically termed as peritonitis.
Patients who have peritonitis tend to experience pain, uneasiness, nausea, and problems with bowel movement. Peritonitis also has an impact on appetite, thus most sufferers lose weight and develop fatigue. Although abdominal discomfort does not specifically mean you are suffering from kennel cough, it is still ideal to consult your doctor, as it may be a sign of serious organ damage.
