6. Melena
Another sign and symptom of H. pylori infection is Melena. The normal stool color may range from light brown to faint green. Any other abnormal and unusual shade may indicate that something is not right in a patient’s digestive system. Melena is a medical term used to describe dark to a black stool and is probably the most obvious symptom that there are a disruption and bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal area.
The dark stool is usually caused by blood and may also exhibit a foul-smelling iron-like odor. Though melena is a common symptom of upper gastrointestinal illness, it does not automatically indicate the presence of H. pylori, it may also be due to peptic ulcer, taking in certain medications, another blood disease, and more.
