5. Pruritus
Another symptom of fifth disease is Pruritus, a health condition where a patient constantly feels the need to scratch a certain part of the body. Although pruritus is not considered painful or harmful, it can cause extreme discomfort and inconvenience if it is constantly felt. It is amongst the non-specific symptoms that may help other primary signs to determine the presence of the fifth disease.
Some factors that may cause pruritus are bug bites, parasites, skin irritation, ringworm, diabetes, and erythema infectiosum. There are a lot of over-the-counter topicals and medications that do not need a doctor’s prescription to consume. However, if it does not heal after self-medicating, a more serious underlying condition may be present.
