5. Inability to Pass Gas
Another bowel obstruction sign is the inability to pass gas. The gas in the digestive system plays an important role in the normal process of digestion. It is expelled through passing (flatus) or burping. However, if the gas is trapped and cannot move through your bowels, it can lead to pain, cramps, and bloating.
There are many other conditions that can cause a patient to not able to pass gas. However, this symptom is common in bowel obstruction. This can leave the patient feeling bloated and full at all times. If the cause is due to bowel obstruction, medical care must be sought. During an examination, the abdomen will look distended and will feel tight as a result of the blockage.
