Diabetic ketoacidosis is also associated with some other complications, such as sepsis, myocardial infarction (heart attack), erosive gastritis, acute gastric dilatation, urinary tract infection, late hypoglycemia, cerebrovascular accident (stroke), and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
One study also shows that pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes who have been diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis tend to show lower cognitive function after treatment when compared to other patients. The researchers involved in this study have also suggested that either the diabetic ketoacidosis or the treatment used may have led to neuronal insult that affects acute and long-term cognitive deficits.
