The Link Between Diabetes and Hypertension

Hypertension, more commonly known as high blood pressure, affects a lot of people who are suffering from diabetes. It has been estimated that 70 percent of diabetes patients also have high blood pressure and are on medication to normalize their blood pressure level.

Understanding Hypertension

A blood pressure reading that is less than or equal to 119/79 is usually normal, while a reading of 120 and 139 on systolic pressure while a reading of 80 and 89 for the diastolic pressure is considered as pre-hypertension, which is a sign of possible hypertension if preventive steps are not taken. A blood pressure of 140/90 and higher is considered as high blood pressure.
