3. Coffee
For most people, their morning is not complete without a cup of coffee. Unfortunately for some, coffee can cause acid reflux. Like many of the foods on this list, coffee can relax your esophageal sphincter and allow stomach acid to run back up into your esophagus. There have been many studies done on the effects of coffee, but the findings are a bit inconclusive. Some studies show that it may be the caffeine while others suggest that there is no correlation between caffeine and acid reflux. It may be the compounds in coffee that cause acid reflux.
What it comes down to is how your body reacts to coffee. If you do drink coffee and it does not give you acid reflux, then by all means, keep drinking. On the other hand, if it does, you should look at how much you are drinking and consider quitting or limiting your intake. Instead of four cups of coffee in the morning, cut it down to two. Or switch to tea.
