4. Soft, swollen spleen

Your spleen is a bean-shaped organ, located just below your rib cage and under normal circumstances it is undetectable. Your doctor will be able to tell if you have an enlarged spleen during a regular check-up. An enlarged spleen can be caused by a variety of things, but when you are fighting off an infection, an enlarged spleen is caused by increased blood flow to the spleen. If the back of your left rib cage feels tender when you touch it or when you lie down and raise your legs you feel pain at the tip of your left shoulder, you may have a ruptured spleen. A ruptured spleen is a serious condition that needs to be taken care of right away. Once a doctor has identified your problem, your spleen will have to removed using the keyhole surgery method.
