8. Spontaneous Muscle Spasms
Muscle spasms or clonus are involuntary muscular contractions when relaxed. Clonus refer to a much larger uncontrollable movements after a reflex while spasms are smaller concentrated to parts of muscles. These are signs that the upper motor neuron pathways and descending motor pathways are affected by too much serotonin in the body. You will know you have muscle spasm or clonus when there is noticeable small twitching up to larger motions that usually are initiated by a reflex. These fluctuations may last a few seconds to a few minutes depending on severity of the syndrome.
