4. Diarrhea

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can infect and kill the epithelium cells lining the intestine’s inner surface. These dead cells will trigger inflammation in the intestines and will disrupt healthy and normal bacteria. This damage will cause diarrhea which may also be accompanied with blood or mucus.

However, this process is a normal life cycle of the bacterium. The body will expel the bacterium through loose and watery stools. It is very important that the patient practice proper hygiene such as washing and disinfecting their hands thoroughly after visiting the toilet. This is because the stool is contaminated with salmonella bacteria and can linger on the fingers and hands. It can later infect other people through contact.
