2. Nausea
When a patient is infected with salmonella, the most common and earliest symptom which will surface is nausea. This happens when the body identifies the presence of bacteria and starts to fight off the salmonella infection.
The body increases the production of stomach acid in order to kill the salmonella bacteria. In doing so, the immune system will also release phagocytes to help attack the bacteria. All these processes will take place in the digestive tract and the stomach, which eventually causes nausea. Nausea can also also be accompanied by headaches.
