6. Skin Discoloration

Abnormal discoloration of the skin is also a common symptom of PCOS. This symptom is due to a condition referred to as Acanthosis nigricans. The condition manifests in the form of black discoloration that will appear on the neck, forehead, skin folds, thighs, breasts, groin, etc.

Other than having increased hormone levels, people with PCOS also have higher levels of insulin in their blood. Higher levels of insulin is often the reason for the blackening of the skin in patients. In one study, it was found that 68% of people who have skin acanthosis nigricans have Polycystic ovary syndrome.
