10. Acute Kidney Injury
Like any other untreated conditions, a regular kidney infection may develop into a more severe case usually called acute kidney injury or AKI. When a person suffers from acute kidney injury, it means that the infected kidney can no longer fulfill its function – to remove and filter wastes or unnecessary liquid in the body. As these wastes remain in the body, the affected person may experience inflammation in the legs and feet.
The patient may also notice other signs that his/her kidney has failed. These include having an unpleasant smell of breath or having a metallic taste, akin to blood, in your mouth.
