5. Intermittent Bleeding
Intermittent bleeding is not a usual sign or symptom of hiatal hernia and is only observed in severe and untreated cases. A hiatal hernia does not normally result in bleeding. Instead, its secondary adverse effects or complications may lead to this. It may include swelling and irritation of the esophagus and esophageal ulcers.
The ulcers or wounds may then cause internal bleeding that can appear in stools and may cause vomiting of blood as well. If you notice dark or black stool and encounter blood in your mouth, consult your doctor if it is hiatal hernia that is causing this issue.
