10. Loss of Vision

The most serious symptom of glaucoma is vision loss. If left untreated for a long time, glaucoma can lead to a total loss of vision. Depending on the type of glaucoma that the patient has, the loss of vision can happen in a sudden or at a gradual pace. With proper treatment, the progression of glaucoma can be slowed down.

The treatment can also add more years of sight to the patient who would have otherwise lose his/her vision. Unfortunately, if an acute glaucoma attack and led to a sudden loss of vision, no treatment may be able to restore the vision. Sometimes, the vision loss will appear as total darkness although some patients have reported a cloudy and extremely blurry vision. Hence, it is paramount to identify the signs and symptoms of glaucoma and detect the condition during its early stages. This enables the patient to seek early treatment to preserve his/her vision.
