6. Abnormal Stool
Another sign of gastritis is having abnormal stool. Some patients with gastritis will notice abnormalities in their stool. The feces can look black, gritty, and tar-like. This can indicate that the upper digestive tract is bleeding. In some cases, the stool may also show the presence of blood.
A bloody stool suggests stomach ulcers, which is a complication of gastritis. The color of the blood will vary, from bright red to maroon. It can also appear tarry and black especially if the bleeding occurs high up into the digestive tract.
