5. Fever
It is common for patients with an ear infection to catch a fever. This is often the case for bacterial and viral infections. The fever is the body’s way of reacting to the presence of foreign bacteria in your body. It is also a natural way of killing the harmful bacteria, so you will eventually feel better.
Fever is a normal response to any infection so you should not too alarmed. Nonetheless, you should monitor your temperature closely and make sure that it does not go above 102°F. Hydrate yourself and rest so that your body can focus on fighting the infection. If your body temperature goes over 102°F, you should seek immediate medical attention, especially if it is accompanied by diarrhea, vomiting, and severe pain.
