Although it is common for toddlers and babies to put all sorts of things in their mouths, this is usually more apparent in kids with autism. This behavior is also noticed in older kids with autism and they may continue doing this even when they are already adults.
Some kids who are diagnosed with autism will even put chalk, soil, and paints into their mouths. This is why parents must closely keep an eye on kids with autism to prevent them from eating something that could poison them and in order to minimize choking incidences.
