6. Beef
Beef is a great source of heme iron, a type of iron that is easily absorbed by the body. Thus, beef is highly recommended if you’re someone who is prone to anemia. Heme iron is usually derived from muscles and blood, which means that it can only be obtained from animal foods.
Unlike the non-heme iron, the heme iron gets absorbed by the body easier and faster, which is why it’s more effective in preventing anemia. But beef must only be eaten in moderation. Too much of it can decrease oxidative stress. A serving of meat contains about 2.4 mg of iron, which is about 15% of your recommended daily intake.
