Overweight and obesity cause diabetes, high cholesterol, heart problems, stroke, and other health conditions. Alternatively, stopping eating to lose weight is counter to human nature, so it’s one of the hardest things we’ll ever do. Yet intermittent fasting has exploded. Here are ten of the most frequently asked questions about IF.
1. What Is IF?
Intermittent means irregular or not steady. Fasting is when the body goes without food for a certain length of time. IF is not strictly a diet. It’s more about when you eat instead of what you eat.
When the body fasts, it uses its own energy stores in the fat cells. This clears out old materials in the cells. It contributes to weight loss and more stable blood sugar levels. It’s a better, healthier concept than using glucose stores for energy.
Fasting gives the body the chance to use its ketone and fat stores instead of using stored glucose for energy. This takes the bad guys out of play thus reducing the onset of serious health conditions discussed above.
