9. Airway Obstruction
One of the most serious symptoms of tonsillitis is obstruction of the airways, which makes it difficult for the patient to breathe. But thanks to modern treatment options, serious complications such as acute tonsillitis are rare. However, airway obstruction due to the swelling of the tonsils will require an immediate medical emergency.
Some of the most common signs that the airway is compromised are high-pitched and labored breathing. Other signs are drooling, flaring of the nostrils, and having a hoarse voice. When these signs are present, the patient must immediately be taken to the hospital for medical assistance.
