3. Redness and Swelling
Some of the most obvious symptoms of tonsillitis are swelling and redness of tonsils. These are also the most common signs of inflamed tonsils. Redness is due to the increased flow of blood in the affected area while swelling is a result of the buildup of fluid.
In some instances, the tonsils will become extremely swollen that it can be observed externally. Sometimes, it is severe enough that it will inhibit the flow of air and can compromise the patient’s ability to breathe. When this happens, the patient must be given immediate medical attention especially if the affected person is a child.
