Chocolate. Sweet, precious chocolate may cause heartburn. Chocolate like many of the foods on this list may cause the lower esophageal sphincter to relax and this allows stomach acid to back up into your esophagus. There are 3 things in chocolate that cause this. Serotonin, theobromine, and caffeine. If you eat chocolate and it causes heartburn, limit your intake.

Acid reflux is a problem for many people. Your diet is directly responsible for acid reflux. Some of these foods may be difficult to give up but if you are dealing with acid reflux often than you need to speak to a doctor and talk about changing your diet. If you ignore the symptoms and don’t make any changes then you could be doing irreversible damage to your esophagus.
