5. Salty food and Salt

Table salt and salty foods may cause acid reflux. While how salt increases your risk of getting acid reflux is not known, studies have shown that there is indeed a link. A particular study has shown that people who add table salt to all of their meals have a 70% chance of experiencing acid reflux. The aforementioned study also noted that people who eat salted foods 3 times a week have a 50% higher risk of getting acid reflux than those that did not.

Despite the findings, it remains unclear why salt can increase chances of reflux. One theory suggests that those who prefer salty foods are also likely to consume more fried foods which are actually the real cause of their heartburn.
