9. Certain Drugs
Patients who have autoimmune diseases may sometimes see a pattern in the flare-ups. Those who have other illnesses that need medications may experience an increase in their autoimmune disease symptoms when certain medications are taken.
The most common autoimmune disease that is triggered by certain drugs is lupus. Prescribed drugs such as antibiotics, antiepileptic drugs, and medications for heart disorders are the usual triggers. It is important to let your doctor know of the adverse effects as soon as you notice it. This allows for possible prevention and other substitute or alternative medications.
