6. Peptic Ulcers
Peptic ulcers refer to painful sores that affect the stomach’s lining or the small intestine. Some of the most common causes behind peptic ulcers are bacterial infections like H pylori, as well as long-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs. The sores could trigger a dull pain in the stomach that’s sometimes accompanied by other digestive symptoms, such as vomiting and nausea, bloating, heartburn, and changes in appetite.
In order to diagnose peptic ulcer, the doctor will first consider the patient’s medical history and perform a physical exam. The treatment will depend on the diagnosis. For instance, if it was due to H pylori infection, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics and acid blockers.
