6. Bilateral Babinski Signs

This is different from hyperreflexia since it is not tapping but a firm stroke along the sole of the foot. Confirmation of bilateral babinski is when the big toe moves upward while the other toes spread out. This is because these receptors are found in the spine and brain stem which can be affected by tumors as well as serotonin syndrome. The build up of serotonin in the body has a direct effect on these receptors associated with the toes and motor control. It should be noted that this is normal for children 2 years or younger and it will disappear as the child gets older.
