5. Fungal Infections Elsewhere
Like any other fungal infection in the human body, if oral thrush is not treated properly and at the right time, it may result in the infection spreading to other parts of the body. This in turn may cause mild to severe medical conditions or illnesses. The complication usually happens when someone’s immune system is very weak and can not fight the infection before it multiplies.
Untreated oral thrush can become severe and extend to the lungs, liver, and can even be seen outside of the body through patches or rashes on the skin. Though it does not usually occur, early diagnosis and proper treatment may prevent it from happening.
