8. Facial Weakness
Facial muscle weakness is another sign of myasthenia gravis. Our face is composed of different muscles that are accountable for creating small movements or expressions such as smiling, winking, frowning, grinning, and more. When the nerve cells stop sending messages to these muscles, facial weakness can be experienced. This is characterized by having an “expressionless face” due to the patient’s difficulty to manifest his or her emotions due to weak facial muscles.
Those who suffer from this symptom may also have a tough time doing some activities that require facial muscle contribution such as whistling and inflating a balloon. Consult your doctor if you encounter this symptom as it may also mean other serious disorders.
