7. Loss of Hearing
Meniere’s disease may also cause a patient to lose hearing in one ear. Your physician will need to carry out the necessary tests to determine if the symptom is due to Meniere’s or if it is age-related hearing loss. If and when it is determined that a patient has Meniere’s, medication is an option for treatment. For some, surgery may be necessary too. Some patients find that a change in their diets can somewhat improve the symptom.
Limiting your salt intake, drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol, and caffeine, including chocolate, may help provide temporary relief. A hearing aid will likely be the best option to regain some hearing back to the affected ear.
