6. Arthritis
If Lyme disease is not diagnosed early and is left untreated, the inflammation can get worsen after a few weeks or months. When the infection develops, several other symptoms will start appearing including severe joint pain or arthritis. Arthritis refers to the swelling and tenderness of the joints.
In Lyme disease, it is the knees that are particularly affected by arthritis. But there are also cases when the inflammation can affect several other joints. The swollen joint is usually very painful. In most cases, patients who got infected with Lyme disease will suffer from Lyme disease during the third stage of the disease.
