2. Paleness

Paleness is also a sign of iron deficiency. One of the main functions of hemoglobin in the body is to provide the skin its natural color. The hemoglobin in the red blood cells is what is responsible for giving blood its color. Therefore, if your iron level is lower than normal, your skin will become pale.

Sometimes, the paleness will only affect specific areas in the body, such as in the nails, lower inner eyelids, inner lips, gums, or the face, depending on the severity of the iron deficiency. Paleness is usually the first thing that is noticed in patients with low levels of iron and it is what most doctors would check when diagnosing a person who is suspected of having iron deficiency.
