4. Sore Throat
Sore throat can also be a sign and symptom of hiatal hernia. There are a lot of things that may cause a sore throat. One of the most common reasons is the regurgitation of acid from the stomach to the esophagus. Since the main function of this acid is to breakdown food in the stomach, when it travels back to the throat, its strength may damage some linings or tissues that may cause a husky voice.
When this happens, the body needs to produce enough amount of saliva to neutralize the acid. This does not only result in voice hoarseness but on some occasions with severe burning pain in the throat as well.
