7. Odynophagia

Odynophagia is another sign and symptom of esophageal cancer. Often associated with difficulty in swallowing, odynophagia is a condition where it is painful to swallow liquid or solid foods. The pain can be present in areas around the mouth, throat, and in between the pharynx and the stomach. Sufferers often notice a sharp pain that can be felt even at the back of the body.

Sometimes, an uncomfortable burning feeling in the esophagus is also observed. Odynophagia can be caused by eating or drinking hot food and liquids. Some drugs as well as excessive smoking, alcoholism, weak immune system, ulcers, heartburn, and infections can also lead to odynophagia.
