3. Curtain-like Shadow
In patients with retinal detachment, it is common for them to see curtain-like shadows that will normally appear over a certain area of the field of vision. This condition will cause the external area of the visual field to get even worse. But it is important to know that this condition is different from amaurosis fugax, an eye condition characterized by a temporary loss of vision.
Some patients will assume that the curtain-like shadow is a result of amaurosis fugax. However, these two are different. Amaurosis fugax will make the patient see images similar to a black curtain and will descend towards the field of vision. For patients with retinal detachment, the curtain-like shadow will begin in the peripheral vision and will gradually progress towards the central vision.
