Dementia can affect a person’s manner of speaking. This is because their ability to understand information has declined. Hence, they will take longer than usual to respond to questions. Most patients with this condition will find it difficult to look for the right words to say. When they do, they may show signs of repeating certain words or sentences or certain sounds. Sometimes, the communicating difficulties with dementia may also be due to hearing loss.

This is why people with dementia usually appear quieter than they are. In some cases, they may totally stop communicating with family and friends and will prefer to isolate themselves during social gatherings.
