10. Rectal Bleeding
Rectal bleeding, also known as hematochezia, happens when there is the blood passing into the anus and is mixed in stool or blood clots. The blood is often noticed in the stool, toilet paper, and in the toilet bowl.
Rectal bleeding is caused by many conditions. This includes anal fissure, constipation, hard stools, hemorrhoids, Crohn’s disease, diverticulosis, angiodysplasia, ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and cancer. Rectal bleeding can also happen as a result of bowel obstruction. In some cases, rectal bleeding in bowel obstruction is a manifestation of a more serious condition, such as colon cancer.
