8. Bowel Disorders

Bowel disorders can also be a sign of autism. Kids with autism have been found to suffer from several medical issues, including gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms that include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. In addition, most kids with autism tend to eat only a few types of foods since they are very selective. They would rather eat highly processed foods and their diet will only include a small amount of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Because of poor diet, most children with autism have poor nutrition, which makes them susceptible to bowel disorders and other health issues. If left untreated, this can extend into adulthood and will increase their risk of high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.
