3. Soreness and Swelling of Your Mouth and Tongue
In some instances, you can determine if you are suffering from anemia simply by looking at your tongue or the inside of your mouth. Look for an unusually smooth, pale, inflamed or swollen tongue. When your hemoglobin is low, your tongue can become pale and if your myoglobin is low, your tongue may be swollen smooth and sore.
If you are wondering what myoglobin is, it is a protein found in your red blood cells. This provides muscle support including your tongue.
A deficiency in iron can result in mouth ulcers, dry mouth or cracks at the corners that are red and sore.
