8. Jaundice
One telling sign of acute pancreatitis is jaundice, a medical condition wherein the sufferer is observed to develop a significant change in their skin color. Patients may notice that their skin, eyes, and certain parts of the body such as eyelids become yellowish instead of the normal complexion. Jaundice is due to high levels of bilirubin, a yellowish substance in the blood.
Bilirubin is not usually present in the bloodstream as the liver breaks it down and processes it. When someone develops acute pancreatitis, this particular function of the liver is being disrupted resulting in jaundice. Check with your doctor if there is an abnormal change in the color of your skin as it suggests possible pancreatitis.
