7. Red Meat
Consuming a large amount of red meat and unprocessed meats is often associated with diverticulosis. Dietary guidelines suggest eating less than 51 grams of red meat a day. Red meat contains sugars, fats and proteins that can make digestion difficult. As opposed to poultry and fish, the digestion of red meat requires the production of a large amount of acid in the digestive process which can bring about gastrointestinal issues such as heartburn, bloating, acid reflux abdominal pain and diverticulosis.
