2. Processed Foods
Refined foods are often the culprit for many who suffer from diverticulosis. Bleached or white flour, white rice, bread, biscuits, pies, cakes, chips, pastries, donuts, frozen desserts, puddings, frostings, cookies, snack foods, specialty meats (bacon, sausage and salami), microwave dinners, prepared meals and drive-thru fast food all fall under the guise of refined foods. These foods lack in any good fiber. Refined or processed foods also contain many number of preservatives, artificial coloring and other chemicals that cause foods sensitivities and allergies.
Additionally, some of these same foods contain lactose which can bring on pain and gas. Therefore, proper elimination of these foods for a diverticulosis sufferer can help to relieve symptoms such as discomfort and constipation.
