5. Yellow or White Coating

Patients with tonsillitis can also develop a symptom known as exudate. This refers to the yellow or white coating in the tonsils that look like patches or streaks. Once the tonsils are inflamed, they will start to fight off the infection and this can lead to swelling. When the swelling gets severe, it will produce pus that will accumulate outside the organs, which explains the presence of the coating.

Those whose tonsillitis has resulted in the yellow or white coating will develop bad breath. They will also experience a bad taste with the food that they eat. Acute cases of tonsillitis can become even more complicated when an abscess is formed. This refers to a pocket of pus that will accumulate around or within the tonsils.
