9. Prognosis
It has been found that the rate of fatality for those with diabetic ketoacidosis in developing countries is 0.2% to 2%. Fatal cases usually happen with deep coma, decreased urine, and decreased body temperature also known as hypothermia. For older patients, the prognosis is even worse, especially those with ongoing illnesses and are treated outside of intensive care.
If treated poorly, diabetic ketoacidosis will rarely produce any residual effects. There is a 30% fetal mortality rate linked to diabetic ketoacidosis. For those who are in a coma, the fatality rate can be as high as 60%. Patients who are treated in intensive care often display the best results during the first two days.
