10. Jaundice
Urinary tract infections are quite common in newborns and kids under two years old. Infants with UTI will have diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. However, the first sign of UTI in newborns is jaundice. When a baby has jaundice, the skin will turn yellowish so do the white portion of the eyes.
In one study, urinary tract infections were detected in 7.5% of infants with jaundice but were asymptomatic. Furthermore, infants who have an onset of jaundice at 8 days of age are more likely to have urinary tract infections. It is for this reason why babies with jaundice have to be tested for UTI.
